The word Giologia is formed by combining the Italian abbrevetion of Giovanni, that is a male Italian given name (from Latin Iohannes), and the suffix '-logia', meaning "science of", "knowledge of", "study of", based on the Greek verb λέγειν, 'legein' "to select", "to gather" (cf. the noun λόγος, 'logos' "word").
Giologia is a science conceived as the totality of all that is studied by the founder Giovanni Cozzolongo.
The term Giologia in its modern sense was introduced independently by Giovanni Cozzolongo (in 2015).
